VOLUNTEER ROLE DESCRIPTON

POSITION Special Events Associate
SUPERVISION Special Events volunteers will work closely with the Development Department team on a variety of community outreach tasks.
TASK To set up and staff display booths at various community events and to inform the public about HBSPCA programs and events

SCREENING All volunteers must complete the appropriate SPCA orientation and training sessions and provide at least two personal references and a police clearance check.
HOURS OF WORK Hours can be flexible and may often include early evenings or weekends
EVALUATION An evaluation interview will take place for each new volunteer after the first six months of service and thereafter, on an annual basis.

SPECIAL EVENTS ASSOCIATE

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Identify and attend various community event opportunities in order to inform the public about the HBSPCA and its programs
  • Set up and take down 10' x 10' tent, display tables and chairs, poster boards, information flyers etc.
  • Engage and educate the public about SPCA initiatives and programs
  • Design and construct various displays outlining HBSPCA programs and initiatives
  • Collect money from donation boxes that are placed at HBSPCA booth in various Hamilton and Burlington locations
  • Hours of work can be flexible and often include early evenings and weekends. Shifts are usually 2 to 4 hours in length. Locations are often out of doors
  • An excellent knowledge of the HBSPCA, its mission and organization and its various programs is a must
  • Ability to engage and converse freely with the public
  • Consistency, competence and reliability are key requirements of this volunteer opportunity, as well as an ability to take direction and work comfortably in a team setting.
