Mourning the loss of your pet?
The death of someone we love can be a very difficult experience. The death or loss of a much loved pet is no exception. When a companion animal dies it is perfectly natural to feel upset and emotional. This animal has probably been part of your life for many years and you have looked after it, fed it, loved it and above all enjoyed its company. Unconditional love might best describe the feeling between you and your pet. The loss of that shared love is significant.
Bereavement Support
We welcome you to attend our Bereavement Education Support Evenings. Any person mourning the loss of a pet regardless of the reason is invited to attend these meetings. The meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m in the SPCA Boardroom. There is no cost for these meetings. Our Volunteer Bereavement Counselor is Julie Brooks, and we are very fortunate to benefit from Julie's experience as a Bereavement Counselor with the Cresmount and Markey-Dermody Funeral Homes. Pet Cremation
The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA offers cremation srvices for most pets which includes the remains being returned in an urn to the family within seven days. Costs for cremation services vary based on weight. The fee schedule is listed below.
- 40 lbs or less = $200
- 41 lbs to 60 lbs = $280
- 61 lbs to 80 lbs - $360
- 81 lbs to 100 lbs = $440
- 101 lbs to 120 lbs = $520
- 121 lbs and over = $600
(These prices do not include GST)
